One week Post op, Right Birmingham Interlocking Hip Surgery

Not sure why the Name of my surgery has changed from Triple Pelvic Ost, to Birmingham Interlocking Hip but either way they are what I've had done a week ago today. Scars are from Pubic region towards the Hips around 6-7inches long, and another scar on the Bum cheek around 3-4inches long.

I am still looking around 9mths pregnant from the swollen belly and my leg is just huge. Worse of all it's still numb and wont cooperate in the slightest. I have to physically lift the leg with my hands to get it onto the sofa and bed. Crutches are a pain the the backside, but least I am used to it.

NHS was outstanding as usual, and hugely supportive and caring. I could not manage without them, and I truly appreciate them and all that they do. I was meant to stay in Hospital for 4/5 Nights but I was discharged after 2 Nights, I was much better than I thought possible after the first experience with TPO, perhaps because I was better prepared and understood more about how I would feel, and how much or how little I would be able to do. First time is always the worst as you have no reference to these things.

Resting up as best as I can, bruising is coming out as you can see here

Stupid Anti Coagulant Injections are back for 4 weeks again.

This is my recovery attire, Tartan Pjs, Spotty Dressing Gown and of course Gingerbread Man socks to help hide the Compression Stockings

This was my Hospital Ward and they were amazing!

Christmas and Op Prep

Well this is a first having a Christmas where I wasn't recovering from Surgery first, Normally.... well for the last four years since 2009 I have had Surgery prior to the Christmas run up, therefore always been hindered in the Present Shopping and of course the Cooking of the Dinner, and generally well just not been at my best due to pain or the painkillers themselves. So this year was Novel, firstly no Surgery, secondly I wasn't cooking either, we were all invited to my Mum's for the day. Yay!!

Dinner was amazing, I truly loved it. I think it was harder than I thought to leave the house and actually be dressed on Christmas Day (sounds bad, but always had been recovering so Lived in Pj's on this day) which meant kids did too. And of course we would all veg out in front of the Tv afterwards. It's different at other people's houses, even if relaxed you can't quite slob out as you would at home lol.

On the way home though, we passed the most Magickal and Wonderful Christmas Lights in a local village, it truly helped lift the spirits and help the Christmas feel in us, it's been a difficult Christmas time. These lights give you that Childhood wonder and amazement, and I can honestly say they really cheered me up.

Had a few family losses before Christmas so this Happy Time wasn't so Happy, More reflective and sobering to be honest. Been an emotional and exhausting time. Leaving little brain space for preparing myself for Surgery on the 8th Jan. Been run down and poorly and now with an infection, I can only hope the Anti-Biotic's work in time and the Surgery isn't cancelled.

If this last month with Family passing has taught me anything, Life is not to be wasted, took for granted and not lived to the fullest with what makes you happy. So as scary as this Surgery is, My head is looking much further in the future than that, I see me painfree and walking aidfree, limpfree and joining in on all those family activities.

So for Christmas I asked for all the little things that make Recovery much better, Soft warm Pj's, Slippers, Dressing Gown, Pants like Shorts (so they don't rub on scars) Socks, and lovely Bath stuff I can use in the sink or with Bath Board. Things small luxuries will help you feel Human afterwards. Onwards and Upwards to Op day and forwards to Recovery..... Roll on 2014

Sbs Event 2013

What is #sbs? well pull up a chair and let me tell you....

Small Business Sunday, shortened to the hashtag #SBS on Twitter, was created by Theo Paphitis in October 2010. Theo is best known for appearing on Dragons Den on BBC Two. He is Chairman of Ryman Stationeryplus Boux Avenue lingerie and Robert Dyas, as well as joint owner of Red Letter Days
Theo is also a mentor and investor to many other business acquainted via the Den includingMagicWhiteboard, Wedgewelly and Value My Stuff.
Each week Theo rewards small businesses that tweet him @TheoPaphitis and describe their business in one tweet including the all-important hashtag #SBS. Only tweets made in the time slot between 5.00 PM and 7.30 PM each Sunday count.
Each week Theo reviews and chooses his favourite lucky six who are then re-tweeted. As he has over 400,000 followers, this provides a massive boost to the chosen lucky businesses.
The benefits range from increased Twitter followers, to positive media publicity and crucially for many, increased sales! Of course, none of this is guaranteed as it is largely down to perseverance and hard work. A smidgen of luck comes in handy.

And why am I telling you all this, well because back in 2012 1st April (i know fools day, except this time i was no fool) I WON my #SBS and recently 28th Nov I got to meet Theo Paphitis and show off my picture with him.

So there you have it, if you have a small business/hobby/crafter that you would like to get noticed have a go, find out more info here http://www.theopaphitissbs.com/

Now after all that excitement, it's time to prepare for surgery once again. Date is for the 8th Jan 2014 and the plan is pelvic ost, so long recovery ahead once more.

Sunday, 24 November 2013

Date has come :o) 8th of Jan

So following my Metal Removal in August, the age old Pain deep inside the Hip Joint has never gone, nor eased with Activity and Physiotherapy, so finally the decision to have further surgery was made. The decision was not as easy it would seem. As I've now been on the Merry-Go-Round since 2007 and under O'H Doc since 2009 so knowing I have another 2 years is daunting, and overwhelming.

So I will say it's been hard, emotional and physically stressful. While I've been recovering form the Metal Removal, I've had a seriously ill daughter who needed her own Hospital stays and surgery, and a Hubby that broke his Ribs. Ill house all round, with us barely holding it together. So to face a guaranteed major upheaval is really hard. But it is after Christmas (for once!) so I can have a good crutchfree Christmas and be done in the depths of Winter when people naturally hibernate anyways and be back to walking stick come Spring hopefully.

So what I am having done? I'm having a Triple Pelvic Ost, where they will break the Pelvis in 3 places, and shunt the Pelvis across to create a deeper Socket for the Ball Joint to fit into. I have had this done on the Left Hip, but as I had it done at the same time as the Left Femur was broken and lengthened, I'm sure the recovery was all the more grueling. So trying to remind positive that the Pelvis wont be as bad as the Two Femurs have been. They have prepared me for a 6-7inch scar on the Buttock (hope not) and the Knicker line on at 7inches. Which for my Right Leg would mean I have 4 scars then, ranging from 6-12inches long!! Looking like a Jigsaw inside and out, or a Raggy Doll. I'm hoping I can persuade him to just Lengthen the one Leg Scar instead of adding the Buttock one? Hoping it's possible.
