Five Weeks Post OP = So Far So Good

So whats Happening now, Not much to be honest on the large scale, But small differences are happening. And for anyone on a hippie journey (well any disability journey) you have to Celebrate the Small Victories.

Scars are clear and healing well

This is the Larger of the Two, around 6-7 Inches and it's the Pelvic Scar.

I have pimped out my crutches thanks to accidentalvix who made me some gorgeous Crutch Handle Covers to protect my hands and soften the Vibrations that pound through the arms and wrists. After a short time of using crutches, you end up with sore Shoulders, Aching Wrists and Blisters on your Hands. You can find your own Covers here, Mine are 2 Years old and still going strong from almost constant wear. She also sells other beautiful things as well as drawing too. See the whole accidentalvix shop

Anyways here is my own Covers for my Crutches

Doing my Physio Daily and Here are my Workout Sheets at the mo.

Some Muscles still not working by themselves yet, I still bathe out of the sink, or use a Bath Board. I can't do socks without pain and discomfort. Nor can I sit on hard things for long. Painkillers have been my biggest bugbear this time round, never knowing what to do for the best? Suffer the Co-Codamol induced Headaches or suffer the Insomnia from Tramadol? Both have Pro's and Cons and Both give nasty side effects, so think this will be a trial for both Tablets and see if I can find a happy medium.

3 Weeks Post Op

3 weeks post op tomorrow, and another Physio appointment. Getting really good at some of the exercises, and with helping out hubby in various roles around the house, which acts as a sort of physio I'm doing really well. I do tire easy and get sore, but stopping and resting eases it off soon enough. I experimented with painkillers to see what works for the best, I was very happy with the 30mg Dihydrocodeine, taking that twice a day with Paracetamol dotted in between. But alas they have ran out, so i tried Co-codamol (which i've never liked) and settled on taking 8 x30/500mg doses. But as I was a 50mg Tramadol taker before, I thought perhaps taking them instead would be better. And I noticed straight away I wasn't sleeping at night, I was restless and agitated. Easily moody and bored with no focus. So today I've gone back to Co-codamol to see if it's the Tramadol alone that was causing these issues like I think they do.

Dressings have been changed and all stitches are removed. Scars are neat and closed, with no infection or worrying signs. I have recovered them for another week as I dont like clothes rubbing on them. Swollen belly has gone down a bit, but not totally down. Tiredness is my biggest set back, the smallest of actions wears me out, I guess sleeping would help Lol x

So Onesie on, enjoying more presents from Mil, and Sil's with Wine Glass Charms for me and Hubby, seen as we are Lord and Lady of Chaol Ghleann in Scotland.

Cheerful Balloon and Card to help ease my pains away. Oh and Choccies as well. (going to have to start eating right soon, otherwise I will be the size of an actual house!)

One week Post op, Right Birmingham Interlocking Hip Surgery

Not sure why the Name of my surgery has changed from Triple Pelvic Ost, to Birmingham Interlocking Hip but either way they are what I've had done a week ago today. Scars are from Pubic region towards the Hips around 6-7inches long, and another scar on the Bum cheek around 3-4inches long.

I am still looking around 9mths pregnant from the swollen belly and my leg is just huge. Worse of all it's still numb and wont cooperate in the slightest. I have to physically lift the leg with my hands to get it onto the sofa and bed. Crutches are a pain the the backside, but least I am used to it.

NHS was outstanding as usual, and hugely supportive and caring. I could not manage without them, and I truly appreciate them and all that they do. I was meant to stay in Hospital for 4/5 Nights but I was discharged after 2 Nights, I was much better than I thought possible after the first experience with TPO, perhaps because I was better prepared and understood more about how I would feel, and how much or how little I would be able to do. First time is always the worst as you have no reference to these things.

Resting up as best as I can, bruising is coming out as you can see here

Stupid Anti Coagulant Injections are back for 4 weeks again.

This is my recovery attire, Tartan Pjs, Spotty Dressing Gown and of course Gingerbread Man socks to help hide the Compression Stockings

This was my Hospital Ward and they were amazing!

Christmas and Op Prep

Well this is a first having a Christmas where I wasn't recovering from Surgery first, Normally.... well for the last four years since 2009 I have had Surgery prior to the Christmas run up, therefore always been hindered in the Present Shopping and of course the Cooking of the Dinner, and generally well just not been at my best due to pain or the painkillers themselves. So this year was Novel, firstly no Surgery, secondly I wasn't cooking either, we were all invited to my Mum's for the day. Yay!!

Dinner was amazing, I truly loved it. I think it was harder than I thought to leave the house and actually be dressed on Christmas Day (sounds bad, but always had been recovering so Lived in Pj's on this day) which meant kids did too. And of course we would all veg out in front of the Tv afterwards. It's different at other people's houses, even if relaxed you can't quite slob out as you would at home lol.

On the way home though, we passed the most Magickal and Wonderful Christmas Lights in a local village, it truly helped lift the spirits and help the Christmas feel in us, it's been a difficult Christmas time. These lights give you that Childhood wonder and amazement, and I can honestly say they really cheered me up.

Had a few family losses before Christmas so this Happy Time wasn't so Happy, More reflective and sobering to be honest. Been an emotional and exhausting time. Leaving little brain space for preparing myself for Surgery on the 8th Jan. Been run down and poorly and now with an infection, I can only hope the Anti-Biotic's work in time and the Surgery isn't cancelled.

If this last month with Family passing has taught me anything, Life is not to be wasted, took for granted and not lived to the fullest with what makes you happy. So as scary as this Surgery is, My head is looking much further in the future than that, I see me painfree and walking aidfree, limpfree and joining in on all those family activities.

So for Christmas I asked for all the little things that make Recovery much better, Soft warm Pj's, Slippers, Dressing Gown, Pants like Shorts (so they don't rub on scars) Socks, and lovely Bath stuff I can use in the sink or with Bath Board. Things small luxuries will help you feel Human afterwards. Onwards and Upwards to Op day and forwards to Recovery..... Roll on 2014
